The Newlands valley is a favourite of ours – it is much quieter than the Borrowdale valley and has a secluded feel.
There is a minor road which runs down the valley – it can be reached from Braithwaite or from Swinside. There are several dramatic hairpin bends before you reach Newlands Hause. Close to the Hause there is a waterfall which is spectacular after heavy rainfall. The road then descends to the village of Buttermere – which will be anything but secluded at most times of the year!
