Croft House Holiday Cottage near Keswick

Spectacular views at our self catering holiday cottage for 2. Peaceful setting 1 mile from Keswick in the Lake District. There are fell walks from the door, 3 restaurants/pub and spa facilities within walking distance. In addition the cottage was assessed in February 2025 as  VisitEngland 4 stars/Gold Award. It has wifi, on-site parking and its own garden. Every year between 40% and 50% of our bookings are made by returning guests – some guests have even stayed more than 20 times!

Croft Corner sleeps 2 people and has ground floor accommodation. The self catering holiday cottage is located on one side of Croft House which is a large Victorian house on the edge of Applethwaite village nestling at the foot of Skiddaw. Great care has been taken in the layout of the cottage and its garden to offer privacy to our guests – and we hope our high percentage of returning guests reflects that. We live next door at Croft House – on hand to offer advice if it is requested about places to go, restaurants and walks – but never intrusive.

Google Street View shows both our location and the spectacular views!

Bookings for the cottage can be made direct with us – either by phone, email or through this website.  We own, manage and maintain the property ourselves. Our rates include heating, electricity, wifi, bed linen and towels. We do not charge an additional “booking fee”.

We look forward to welcoming guests to the magnificence of the Lakes and the peaceful location of Croft Corner.

Nearby

Keswick is just 1 mile away – a pleasant walk or a short bus or taxi journey. It has an array of eating places, independent shops and the renowned Theatre by the Lake and Alhambra cinema. The town is known as the “adventure capital of England” with an extensive range of sports you can try.

Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake are just a few minutes drive. You can drive down Derwentwater through the iconic Borrowdale valley, over the Honister Pass and back via Newlands valley – such dramatic scenery in just an hour’s drive!

In addition to the walks direct from the cottage doors the local area has a multitude of walks you can try – from high level ridge walks to meandering valley footpaths as well as the summits of the highest fells – Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Scafell Pike.

Further afield

In addition to Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite there are no less than 7 other lakes all within a 30 minutes drive – Ullswater, Loweswater, Buttermere and Crummockwater, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere – and only a little further to Ennerdale Water and Wastwater.

You can be in Ambleside in a 30 minute drive and in Windermere in 40 minutes.  There is also a network of local bus services that radiates out from Keswick.

The Lake District – now a UNESCO World Heritage site – has many literary and historical connections – some nearby like Mirehouse, some further away like Dove Cottage, Rydal Mount and Allan Bank – which are all near Grasmere just a 20 minute drive.

For more information on Keswick, houses and gardens to visit, sports, walking routes, the local area and further afield – please go to the Things to do page – we hope this will help you plan your stay in the Keswick area.

Enjoy your time in the Lakes! We hope we can welcome you to Croft Corner.
