There are some excellent walks around Rydal and Grasmere – but perhaps best done on a quiet day out of school holidays and preferable not at weekends!
It is possible to park near White Moss Common and then you can turn right just before the bridge over the river Rothay and walk towards Grasmere or go over the bridge and up through the wood turning left at the gate towards Rydal.
Rydal in autumn is particularly beautiful with spectacular reflections. You can combine a walk with a visit to Dove Cottage or Allen Bank both in Grasmere and also Rydal Mount – all three being places where Wordsworth lived. The cafe at Rydal Hall or the one at the Grasmere garden centre make good refreshment stops!
