Some of the most spectacular views can be on misty mornings when the clouds hang in the valleys in layers draping themselves over the lower fells. This view from Croftside is down the Borrowdale valley – and shows Cat Bells on the right hand side with the bulk of High Spy and Maiden Moor beyond.
The Borrowdale valley can be reached in just a few minutes drive from the Croft House Cottages. A spectacular scenic drive is along this valley down to Seatoller, up over the Honister Pass into Buttermere and back over the Newlands Pass into Braithwaite and return to Applethwaite. Just an hour of driving but such a succession of dramatic views and opportunities for photo stops!
