One of our favourite walks is the old “coffin route” from Rydal through the woods above Rydal Water, down to White Moss Common and back along the lake shore to Rydal village. The cafe near Rydal Hall makes a good starting and end point!
This walk is especially nice in autumn when the reflections in the lake are superb. We usually have our picnic sat on the edge of the lake shore watching the antics of the cormorants on a small rocky island in the lake.
It is a good walk to do on the spur of the moment – not much planning required and an easy route.
