Askham Hall near PenrithAskham Hall is in the village of that name which is near Penrith. A peel tower was built on the site in the 14th century.  It was enlarged considerably in Elizabethan times and became a residence of the Lowther family in the 19th century – becoming their family home after Lowther Castle was closed in 1937. In 1968 it became a Grade 1 listed house.  

Since 2012 Askham Hall has been converted into a luxury hotel with a Michelin starred restaurant.   There are extensive gardens to visit – including a 230 feet double herbaceous border, colourful terraces and an interesting kitchen garden. In addition there is a garden cafe to enjoy and views to the river Lowther.
