SkiddawThe setting for Keswick is dominated by the bulk of Skiddaw at 3053 feet. It is the fourth highest in the Lake District.
Guests at the Croft House Cottages often take a route to the summit which starts from the car park at the top of the Gale Road.  The path is easy – steep initially but flattening out across the top. The first summit reached is that of Skiddaw Little Man – which gives the more expansive view across Derwentwater and Keswick.
The best route is from behind the Ravenstone Hotel a little way along the A591 – there is a bus service. The route goes over Ullock Pike,Longside Edge and up onto Skiddaw. A return back down via the Gale Road makes a superb circular walk.
It is a grand mountain.
