Many people like to find a suitable parking place on the side of the road between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding – a place to have a quiet picnic looking across Ullswater to the fells on the other side. I rather liked this view of the pattern of light on the fellside.
Sometimes you can see the launch service on the way up and down the Lake. It calls at Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and Howtown. You can walk along the far side of the lake – with just a few headlands to negotiate. It is really good if you catch the launch to Howtown and then walk back to Glenridding. In autumn it is just a delight with the spectacular colours of the silver birches along the way.
