A trio of ducks came to check out the accommodation in our pond recently. They also checked out our larger, more informal pond but seemed happier with this smaller one!
Just before the ducks had arrived we saw a grey heron by the informal pond. As soon as I took a single photo it heard the click and took off in a great flapping of wings.
We sometimes see a grey heron in the fields near the roundabout on the A66 – water tends to collect there and it makes a suitable stopping point for the heron. We enjoy watching the grey herons at Muncaster – they are fed each day in the afternoon and it is a magnificent sight to see herons en masse!By Jan on January 30th, 2018
