Hands Sculpture on the shores of Derwentwater

Hands Sculpture close to Derwentwater

This is a well known landmark on the walk through the woods at Brandelhow on the far side of Derwentwater from Keswick. You can reach that side of the lake by launch from the Keswick boat landings near the Theatre by the Lake.

The hands sculpture was carved from a single oak tree and was placed there to commemorate the centenary of the National Trust in the Lake District. They make a magnet for young children to climb in – with many photos being taken!

It make an idyllic walk to then circuit the lower end of the lake returning to Lodore via the path over the sections of boardwalk and the “chinese bridge”. You can then return to Keswick by launch as their is a staging point close to Lodore.
