Croftside – sleeps 4 plus cot

Croftside is a holiday cottage offering self catering accommodation for up to 4 people. In the photo of Croft House (at the top left on this page) Croftside is on the right hand side. It is VisitEngland four stars with a VisitEngland Gold Award.

A gravel path leads through the garden of Croftside up to the porch and the entrance door which opens into the hall. The spacious double bedroom (with a view over the garden to the Borrowdale valley) and shower room are off the hall. The shower room has a shower cubicle – newly fitted in January 2016 – and there is also a wash basin and toilet.

Stairs lead to the first floor where the the lounge and kitchen/dining room are located. Both of these are double aspect rooms. The lounge has stunning, panoramic views south to Borrowdale and the northwestern fells and east to Latrigg. The kitchen/dining room has a kitchen area with Shaker-style oak units (refitted in 2014) with an oak dining table. There are spectacular views north to Skiddaw and again east to Latrigg.

There is further flight of stairs to the second floor and the twin bedroom and bathroom. The twin bedroom has the same panoramic view south as the lounge. The spacious bathroom has a bath (with shower over) washbasin and toilet and another amazing view to Applethwaite with Skiddaw towering over the village. The view to Applethwaite is particularly spectacular in May when the gorse bushes clothe the lower slopes in a golden swathe. But then it is also spectacular when Skiddaw is cloaked in snow!

Croftside has its own independent heating system and in addition there is a coal-effect electric fire in the lounge. It has its own enclosed garden with magnificent views. Garden furniture and a BBQ are provided. From the slate patio you can watch the sunsets over Bassenthwaite. Croftside has an adjacent, small boiler room with space to store/dry walking gear. There are fell walks from the door (ranging from easy to difficult!) and three restaurants within walking distance – as are the health spa facilities at Oxleys at Underscar in Applethwaite.

There is a separate, shared laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer and additional space to dry wet walking gear.

We can offer lockable bike storage but we would ask that this is requested on booking. There is an outside tap by the laundry room so that bikes can be washed off.

Car parking for 2 cars in separate car park area. There is also a separate, shared children’s play area with a play tower and badminton net.

A wonderful week in Croftside. We did not want to leave. It was so comfortable with everything we wanted – just like home. And the views!

Croftside is a great place to come back to. Difficult to beat the views from every window.

Croftside’s location just outside Keswick is handy for the northern Lakes and is in a lovely and quiet setting. We ate dinner in all week and used the well-equipped kitchen constantly, enjoying the sociable eat-in layout. The touches of a thoughtful host were everywhere.
