Although the high fells will have a fringe of snow from early November through until April it is rare for Keswick to get snow at ground level. On those few occasions when it does the snow does not last long – although we do recall one major exception to that during the winter of 2010 when Derwentwater froze over! We had significant snow on the lane then – but the local farmer quickly snow-ploughed it away.
Between Christmas and New Year this was the view from the entrance gate up the lane to Applethwaite village – with the slopes of Skiddaw behind.
The Yorkshire Dales have much more severe winter weather than here in Keswick.By Jan on January 20th, 2018
