Autumn View of Applethwaite

Autumn View of Applethwaite

The end of Autumn has brought some beautiful, brilliant days when the foliage colours have been seen at their best. This is the view from the lane by Croft House Cottages across to one end of Applethwaite village. The building on the far left is the Underskiddaw Church Room – part of Crosthwaite Church.

There is a track leading steeply up from close to Millbeck over an outcrop called Whitestones. The path continues over Carlside to the Carlside Col – and on up to Skiddaw which rises on the right hand side of the photo.

One of the most interesting routes to Skiddaw is over Ullock Pike onto Carlside via Longside Edge thence to the Carlside Col and the summit of Skiddaw – returning by the easy route down via Jenkin Hill into Applethwaite.
