Wray Castle has only recently become open to the public. It was always possible to walk down to the shore of the lake nearby – but the property has been rented out in recent years. This photo was taken one evening just a few days ago. The garden of Croftside is a sheltered area with magnificent views to the Borrowdale and north western fells. It makes a secluded place for a picnic or summer BBQ – or just to sit and relax after a day out on the fells. Guests sometimes like to have breakfast in the garden – which always feels a luxurious start to the day. The undulating ridge of Causey Pike is conspicuous in the view – with the ridge to Eel Crag up over Sail to the right and the fells leading to Catbells on the left. Continue reading
